| I found this again. It's been a while.
I have read some more books since my last post. I can't remember all of them, but selected highlights include
a book about Northern Ireland by Dervla Murphy - it might be called A Place Apart, or something like that. Mirrors of the Unseen by Jason Elliot, which I loved and adored and thank you very much to Cilroi for buying it for my birthday. Istanbul by Orhan Pamuk - interesting, and now I'm reading the Black Book by him I can really visualise the city and the family set-ups
I'm sure there's been other stuff as well, but I really can't remember it. Oh well.
|
| The Young Bond series by Charlie Higson are very good. I've just finished the second book, Bloodfever, and I really enjoyed it. Classic adventure stories, really well written, and you don't have to like James Bond to read them. There are little knowing nods to the "future", but still very much kids books.
Tomorrow I might start on Istanbul, by Orhan Pamuk, or Melog by Mihangel Morgan.

| Pathetic.
One Book.
And that took me forever to get started.
But it was a very good book once I got into it. The Reindeer People by Piers Vitebsky. All about reindeer herders in eastern Russia. A very good social/cultural study, and it made me want to herd reindeers :)
Or be an anthropologist ;)

| Another book read - Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman.
It was good, and funny, but not as powerful as something like American Gods. I remember when I read that there was a point when everything just clicked into place and became perfect and I wanted to run round screaming "Yes! Yes! Yes!" at the top of my voice. This one had nice touches, but never really started rolling in the way that I wanted. It's good though. So read it.
|
| Yes, another book. Will wonders never cease?
*And* I have another book lined up to read next....
|
| Another book to be added to the list - see below.
And it made me cry :( | |
|
| I've finished the book that I mentioned in my last post, so I can start my list for real : )
1. The Exiles at Home - Hilary McKay. Started 08.01.06, finished 08.01.06. 2. Indigo's Star - Hilary McKay. Started 13.01.06, finished 13.01.06. 3. Permanent Rose - Hilary McKay ( any-one would think I like her stuff from this list! ) started 13.01.06, finished 14.01.06 4. Anansi Boys - Neil Gaiman. Started the 13th or 14th January, finished 22.01.05 5. Reindeer People - Piers Vitebsky 6. Bloodfever - Charlie Higson. Started 25.03.06, finished 01.04.06.

| As of Sunday 8th January 2006, 6.32pm, I have read, um, precisely 0 books. However, I have read about two thirds of the Exiles at Home by Hilary McKay. I've read it before, but it is still wonderful, and it still makes me giggle. Probably at the same points that made me laugh the first time around.
So, book the first is: The Exile at Home - Hilary McKay.
And to finish of this entry, I will merely say "Rorin Pig" and leave it at that.

| Well, this may be the most foolish idea that I've ever come up with, but this year, I, Moisheoishe the first ( delusions of grandeur or what!? ) am going to attempt to keep a record of every book that I read *gasp*
This shocking initiative has been prompted by the fact that I can barely remember the books that I read this past December, let alone the past year. Working in a bookshop for nigh on six years has reduced my reading ability to less than that of a small child who holds a book upside down and flicks the pages from right to left. As an ex-children's-bookseller, there may well be a rather high proportion of children's literature appearing in the list, but at least it will be a book of some description ;-)
Oh, can I mention the embarressment ( spelt very wrongly I know ) of seeing one's former tutor of early welsh heroic poetry while choosing from the selection of said reading material at the local library? Oh yes.
Also, this is will be an exercise in making sure that this free livejournal thingamibobby pays for itself. I am rather fond of registering for web thingies, having a quick poke round and never going back again. For example,I now have *two* googlemail accounts, which I will never use as I have my very own domain and e-mail address ( hey, if it gives me sovreignty over a small patch of intangible cyberspace then that's good enough for me. ) Anyways, I spent a rather disproportionate amount of time making this place look funky, so I might as well do something with it.
So, next post. The list. Onwards and upwards. At least if I can reach the shelf in the library.
Here goes nothing... | |
